It can be difficult to sleep soundly in hotel beds.

But that could be a thing of the past – thanks to Swedish entrepreneurs who’ve designed a fully-adjustable mattress which can be firmed, or softened, at will.

And, since launching in 2014, the YouBed has already become a welcome addition to some of Europe’s leading venues, including every Movenpick resort across the continent.

Dubbed a world-first by creators Stefan Hyltenfeldt and Mattias Sorensen, the cutting-edge creation was eight years in the making.

Operated by a hand-held controller, the bed features a spring-tightening mechanism which guests can fine-tune at random affecting the outer surface.

There are a total of 20 settings to choose from, which can be applied across the entire mattress at one or to specific sections, such as the shoulders or lower back.

In addition, the left and right sides of the mattress can also be isolated, which makes it ideal for couples sharing.   

According to the official website, these functions means that ‘regardless of height, weight, body shape or typical sleeping position, your bed will always suit you’. 

‘While sleeping is the primary purpose of accommodation, until now no hotel could guarantee a comfortable bed,’ Sorensen told The Week.

‘In other words, they couldn’t personalise their single most important detail. That’s where we come in – because our beds can 100 per cent promise that comfort for every guest. 

‘During Euro 2016, Sweden’s national footballers shipped our beds to France for the tournament: they wanted to ensure they had the best possible preparation, and personalised beds aided that. 

‘We were heralded as the team’s secret weapon, but unfortunately Sweden still didn’t perform very well – we wondered if they overslept!’.

The mattresses are expected to hit the UK, later this year, following launches across Asia, America and India.
